Don,
Westerkirk is to the NW of Canonbie. Travelling north from Canonbie one
travels thru' Langholm. If then one travels NW along the valley of the
Esk one moves into Westerkirk and subsequently into Eskdalemuir. If one
travels NE from Langholm one moves into Ewes.

I have seen your request for Nancy/Agnes Clark before, looked thru' my
material but not found anything. However your note that you are looking
at a John Beattie who had a son James at Westerkirk is extremely
interesting.

In the Westerkirk OPR your John was described as of Lineholm - and
Lineholm is very much
a Beattie place and had been for a lot of years and was for many years
after 1816.

John Beattie of Lineholm had several children before and after James.
First Christian (bapt June 1810), William (bapt April 1812), <no name>
Jul 1814, James (Oct 1816),
Janet (bapt Nov 1821, born Sept 1821), Thomas (bapt Oct 1823), John
(bapt June 1826)
and Walter (bapt 1828).

I'm not sure this helps but if it ties in with anything else do let me
know.
Meanwhile I'll keep looking

Neil
