Is this town plan published or otherwise available, short of visiting
Dumfries? I have a reference in the will of John M'Cartney of Halketleaths
(Buittle parish KKD) to "two tenements in Luthergate*, burgh of Dumfries"
(*sp? -- hard to read) who died abt 1780, leaving his property to a grandson
John McCartney Allen, later named Dr. John Allen McCartney (taking name as a
condition of inheriting). The good doctor died 1829, apparently childless,
but leaving a passle of heirs of various surnames.
I'd be interested to know (1) just where in Dumfries "Luthergate" is (or was)
located; & (2) who all owned tenements there, especially any blocks of two
tenements.

Thanks for bringing this town plan to light!
