. I am wondering if someone might have encountered any of the following IRVINGS in your work and have more information on any of these people who are all relatives of or who married into our Johnstone line:

Dr. William Johnstone's father was George Johnstone (b. 1749) who married Grace/Grizel Irving.

Mary Crone Irving b. abt 1790 in Annan, Dumfriesshire, Scotland maried Dr. William Johnstone (b. 1788);

Mary Crone Irving was a relative of Edward Irving, headmaster of the school at Annan at which Thomas Carlyle taught for four years. Dr. William Johnston was a classmate and friend of Thomas Carlyle who was born in the same village.

Dr. William Johnstone's brother James Johnstone b. 1795 m. Mary Irving b. 1797

His nephew and James' son, Christopher Johnstone (b. 1828) married Margaret Irving Smith (b. 1826) whose mother was Janet Rollo Irving.

Mary Crone Irving was a relative of Edward Irving, headmaster of the school at Annan at which Thomas Carlyle taught for four years. Dr. William Johnston was a classmate and friend of Thomas Caryle who was born in the same village.

Any chance any of these connect to your lines? I thank you ever so much for any information you might be able to provide!

Caryn Moore
