I have a thin 4x6 photo of a man thatlooks like it is
pasted onto a cardboard backing, a little larger than
the photo.
At the bottom, on the cardboard, it says "Alexander"
on the left and "Dumphries" on the right, in gold,
cursive lettering. I was hoping that Alexander was a
photographer in Dumphries and someone would have some
info on him or his studio.
This man appears to be the same man who is in an 8x10
photo of him in his casket. It says "Grand Pa" and
"Beloved Father" on some of the flowers.
I am sure this one has to be from before 1950. I am
trying to figure out if the casket photo was from
Scotland or the U.S. I have no idea who this man is.
When my gggrandmother (born in Wigtownshire) died in
Chicago, IL in 1955, they photographed her in her
casket. Is this a common practice in Scotland? Would
they have used those words on his casket if he died in
Scotland?
Does anyone know of a website I could go to to see if
I can date this photo by the suit he is wearing? I
would appreciate ANY help.
I have another photo of a man and woman on a large
cardboard and on the bottom right corner it says "J.
Cook," in cursive, and AYR, "N.B." Does anyone know
what the N.B. stands for or know anything about J.
Cook?
Thank you so much,
Diane
