Hello Iain and Margo,

Thank you for your further input on this question.

Neither of the parties lived at 21 Hope Street. The bride, Caroline
Johnston-Douglas SMITH lived at 374 Maryhill Road, Glasgow; the groom,
Robert PEDEN, a postman, lived at 88 Graeme Street, Glasgow.

In the "When, Where and How Married " column the "how" of the marriage is
described thus: "By Declaration in presence of Walker Meiklejohn, 192 North
Woodside Road, Glasgow and Jane Peden or Meiklejohn, also residing there".

In the "If a Regular Marriage.... If a Irregular Marriage...". is written:
"Warrant of Sheriff Substitute of Lanarkshire dated July 24th 1924". That
is the date of the marriage.

So, Margo, there is no mention of a minister of any kind on the certificate.

Maybe there might be some links between the marriage partners and one of the
tenants at the address.

However, without the mention of a minister, it seems to em as if it might be
a civil marriage, even though it was not in a designated register office.

Many thanks, again, for the further input on this. Hopefully an answer will
be found one day.

Jenny Gibson,
Toowoomba, Australia.
