Subject: Deaths at Sea - Lachlan Macquarie McFARLANE
Date: Thu, 17 Nov 2005 15:48:46 +1300

Good evening, listers

I would be grateful if anyone would advise me re the above gentleman - my
great grandfather's older brother, Lachlan Macquarie Macfarlan .

He had trained as a ship carpenter at Dunbarton with my great grandfather,
Duncan, and went to sea some time after 1851 Census. (Lachlan married
Jeanie?Jenny? Janette? BLEW/BLUE 7 Jan 1853 in Dumbarton. )

According to oral history Lachlan was said to be at sea when he died in
1868, and was buried on the Island of Penang. I have searched the cemetery
records there but haven't found him. A young sailor would most likely have
been buried in an unmarked grave.

Where would I find a record of his death? He worked on merchant vessels and
also for the US navy.

All suggestions gratefully received

Cathy
