Dear All
It has just dawned on me how frustrating jargon can be.
At our workplace and in our lives we shorten so many things as to be
incomprehensible outside our immediate sphere. In our group there are I know
those people just setting out in their quest to find their ancestors. They
chose this list because I presume they know the recipe for Yorkshire
puddings and scones which are not allowed here. BUT I can think of one
subscriber (in Canada) at least who for example will not have come across
LDS BVRI (Latter Day Saints British Vital records Index) or CWGC
Commonwealth War Graves Commission) so while I appreciate some of our more
experienced researchers take these abbreviations for granted, remember those
new to genealogy among us. They are as 'serious' a researcher as anyone but
are at the start of a long learning curve - just as we all were once. Lets
make this list a 'plain English' list even if it takes a little longer to
spell certain things out or append a footnote.
That leads me on to the Chapman codes which I think after this monologue
send tomorrow :-)
