It would appear that SARAH NESHAM was christened 8 November 1846 in All
Saints, Newcastle and is the daughter of ROBERT NESHAM and a JANE. Other
siblings are ELIZABETH (9 September 1838), JANE (5 July 1840), JOHN ROBSON
(27 July 1842), ALICE ANN (7 July 1844), MARGARET (15 July 1849) and ANN
ROBSON 21 September 1851) - all christenings in All Saints.
In 1881 ROBERT NESHAM is at 25 Billy Mill Lane, Chirton aged 66 (born
Newcastle) and a glass cutter. His wife JANE is aged 65 also born
Newcastle. Daughter MARGARET is unmarried and also there together with a
grandson THOMAS MUMMERY aged 6 and born North Shields.
This is not known to be my line, but NESHAM is not too common a name. My
own line is from a CHRISTOPHER NESHAM who married an ELIZABETH BOOTLAND 31
December 1806 also All Saints, Newcastle. I have a 10 year gap in their
children between 1810 and 1820 so ROBERT could possibly be a child of them
also. The name ROBERT is used in the BOOTLAND line. Their first 3 children
are all recorded as being christened All Saints, but daughter ELIZABETH was
one of the first children christened in Brunswick Methodist Chapel when it
was opened in 1820.
I don't believe there are many around these days, but I know that there used
to be a butcher in Felling High Street by that name around the 1930's.
Around 1990, their shop was left standing when all the others around had
been knocked down. I also seem to have recollections of a firm of
solicitors of the name in Newcastle about that time, but that may just be
imagination.
