They would most likely have been returned to their parish of settlement
and been buried in the churchyard of that parish.
Here is an example from the Bottesford Burial Register 1887
NAME. Catherine Huckaby, widow of Wm. Huckaby
ABODE. Union Workhouse, Grantham
WHEN BURIED. 22nd July
AGE. 79
BY WHOM THE CEREMONY WAS PERFORMED Frederick R Norman, Rector
Note in margin.
WHEN DIED. 19th July
This is one of many similar entries showing the poor from the workhouse
being returned home to be buried.
