Hi Pauline,

I have a similar case. one of my Gt. Gt. Grandmother's died in an asylum in
Gateshead about 5 months after giving birth to a child. The cause of death
on the certificate is Puereral Insanity & Exhaustion 5 months. This means
that for 5 months she had suffered what today would be known as Post Natal
Depression and exhaustion. During the 5 months after the birth of that baby
she also had two of her other young children die within about 14 days of
each other.

I would say that the Puerperal Mania that you have on your certificate means
the same as mine, Post Natal Depression by a different name.

Hope this helps
Jenny DeAngelis.
