Hello, I admit to having had this so badly that my baby daughter and myself
were admitted to hospital when she was six weeks old. We were in a Mother and
Baby unit of a psychiatric unit. We were kept together at all times. There was
not threat to my child only that the illness is like any bad depression causes
lethargy, loss of concentration, feelings of despair and worthlessness. The
bond between Mother and Baby would be broken if they were separated for to
long.
I believe there is a psychotic illness that can be brought on as a result of
childbirth.
This manifests itself very differently to Post Natal Depression.
Thankfully with enlightened treatment theses days these things are more
treatable and understood.
Even in 1974 when my daughter was born the illnesses were understood.
Imagine what our poor Ancestors must of gone through. Childbirth was supposed
to be the fullfillmment of their roll. They were often shunned by family
members for having this illness.
sincerely, Jacqui White
