I didn't see any replies to this - but my computer has been down, so I may
have missed other people's comments

However I suspect that this was certainly an ad - but not made by him,
commissioned as "gifts" for friends and customers

These type of mugs [and pens, keyrings etc] are very common today - why not
in the past?
