It means exactly what it says. The Registration District of Stockton was
created 1st July 1837. Mainly in Durham, but included parts of Yorkshire North
Riding.
Sub-districts : Hartlepool; Sedgefield; Stockton; Yarm.
The Registration districts were based on Poor Law Unions which did not
conform to county boundaries.
