About four years ago Deborah Wilson was posting queries to the list
about her Dutcher line that she had traced back to George Milo Dutcher
b. 1839 in Cairo NY. I hope she is still here.

Don't confuse this George M. Dutcher, as I discovered I had been doing,
with Professor George Matthew Dutcher, who was a member of the Dutcher
Family Association and published dozens of history and geography text
books in the 1930's and 1940's. Both of these guys used the same M. in
their names and it has caused me a lot of confusion. One of the book
sellers I keep in touch with sent me an E-mail asking if I wanted a copy
of George M. Dutcher's Autobiography. Naturally I said yes, and I
started looking up everything I could about the wrong George Dutcher.
Both men are rather interesting, but let's talk about George Milo
Dutcher.

This is an Autobiography published in 1872. George M. Dutcher was a
very popular leader in the Temperance movement after the civil war.
Abraham Lincoln was one of the early members of the Sons of Temperance
as was President Grant, but it was George M. Dutcher who really got
things going for Prohibition.

I put together a webpage for George, if you are interested in reading
more.

The book has an engraving of George, but most notably, this book was
signed by the Author! It was presented to James F. Martin in 1873.

If anyone has any more information on George Milo Dutcher, or if Deborah
Wilson or any other descendants are around I would like to hear from
you. There are several clues buried in the book about George's parents
and family, though he never mentions them by name.
