I have been trying to locate some descendants of a Peter Franzmann from Franklin County, Indiana who was in the 13th Regiment of the Indiana Volunteers in November 1862. My mother-in-law has a German Bible with a bookplate giving the following information:
Bible House, Baltimore
November 17th, 1862
From the Maryland State Bible Society to Peter Franzmann, Soldier in the 13th Regiment, Company G (or C) of State of Indiana Volunteers.
Should I die on the battle field or in Hospital, for the sake of humanity, acquaint John Franzmann, residing Franklin Co. of the fact, and where my remains may be found.
Then on the facing blank page someone wrote:
Peter Franzmann Co G 13th Regt. Indiana Volt.
acquaint
John Franzmann
residing
Franklin Co.
Post Office
St. Peters.
1864
I have been trying to find a descendant of the Franzmann's to give this Bible to.
I have searched several databases including the new LDS site with no luck. There is no Franzmann surname list on Rootsweb-L. I have posted a query on the Indiana Civil War website and gotten no response after 2 months. I have written to all (2) the Franzmann's located in Indiana using www.switchboard and www.abii searches. I got an email back from one that said their family arrived after the Civil War.
Anyway, can anyone on the Dyer list help?
