Subject: Morgan/Morgans family Brechfa

Having spent months researching my Morgans family, my mother came up trumps last week when she discovered a scrap of paper on which her uncle had written one brief sentence, indicating that a great grandfather of his had been buried at Brechfa church, aged 92 years old. Throughout the week, I could think of nothing but visiting Brechfa on my first available day off work - Saturday. After a nice lunch at Llandeilo, we arrived at Brechfa and saw for the first time my 3rd great grandparents grave. I already knew their names (Evan and Anne Morgan) and had their details in the 1841 census when they were residing at Llawrborth, Llanfihangel Rhosycorn. Evan was indeed 92 when he died, and the inscription states that they both lived at Nanthir, near Brechfa at the time of death.
As soon as I got home, I checked the 1881 census and found them both living at Nanthir in the parish of Llanfihangel ar Arth.
Evan Morgans - married - Mason - age 73 - City of Gloucester
Anne Morgans - married - Masons wife - 78 - Llanwennog. Cardiganshire
I don't know why I was so shocked to find that Evan was born the other side of Clawdd Offa (Offa's Dyke). It might have something to do that all my ancestors to date on paternal and maternal sides have been from West Wales. A quick check of the IGI gave me Evan's parents and birth details - he was born 21 Jan 1808, son of John Morgan and Lucretia.
I am now hoping that someone can help me fill in the gaps for the censuses of 1851 - 1871 or indeed help me find their marriage. I have no idea about the whereabouts of John and Lucretia. It is quite possible they remained in Gloucester.
I only wish my mamgu (grandmother) was alive so that I could have shared this information with her.
Kind regards,
Siân Gillespie
