Tennessee Cousins by Ray, Genealogical Publishing Co, Baltimore MD, 1971, "A
History of TN People":

Page 584, Excerpt: "Ralph Crabb and Jacob Van Sandt, Sr., two men over 45
joined the Winchester TN "Home Guards" to protect the property of those
younger men away fighting for their country. Many are Revolutionary War
Veterans. "Jacob Van Zandt came from Rutherford County, NC and was the
father of Isaac Van Zandt who appears on the Franklin TN records in 1817."

Page 582, "Isaac Van Zandt was an early settler of Franklin County. He and
John B. Hawkins settled near Winchester in Franklin County in 1817."

Page 372, Monroe County TN, Four Mile Branch Post Office: "George Van Zandt
and Hiram Vanzandt: They came over from Rutherford Co, NC where were living
in 1790 on the first census. Eventually, this family removed to Fort Worth,
TX.

Page 486, Bradley County, TN-- Notes on the origin and History of the Denton
Family of Bradley, McMinn & sometimes Monroe Co TN:
"Isaac Denton born 1840 was one of 14 children of William Denton and Amanda
Allen, both were said to be born in East TN. William died in 1856, Amanda
died later. Isaac Denton fought in Southern Confederacy. In 1869, he
married a widow, Mrs. Mary E. VAN ZANDT. They had 7 sons and 3 daughters,
names unknown. This Issac Denton first saw the light of any day in Monroe
Co, East TN. In the U.S. census of Monroe Co TN are found:

James Denton age 20-30 married
Isaac Denton, age 30-40, married
John Denton, age 30-40, married
Reuben Denton, 40-50, married.
There is much more on this family which was not copied.

Page 567, Lincoln Co TN, (taken from Bedford Co Lands in 1810) was the line
between AL & TN. 100 acres was bought for the county seat from Zeke Norris
for the town of Fayetteville. Lots were sold. Zeke Norris later sued
Lincoln County for donated lands (he was falsely lead to donate land). He
recovered $700. 128 Lots on 100 acres sold by Sep 1810. Jacob VAN ZANDT
bought a lot. "Jacob VANZANDT was of that old NC family, representatives of
which became prominent in later day TX."

October 1997, was contacted by Tennessee Vanzant Researcher Susan Egan Wyatt
(). (see also Smith Co MS) Her ancestors originally
came from Holland to Rutherford Co NC (allied families there are
RANKIN/BLACKBURN in allied MS family BRIDGES) She is trying to Jacob to the
correct parents/family in TN.
I. Jacob James Van Zandt, born in TN 1818, married Margaret Elizabeth MAGEE.
They moved to Smith Co Mississippi, daughter:
II1. Mary "Tiny" VAN ZANDT, born MS Oct 25, 1890 d: Jan 5 1945 married Jul
26 1908 Walter Alba WYATT.
II2. Bruce Van ZANDT born MS married Ida CARTER.
-------------------------------------------------
We could have the same ancestors because our ancestor William G. Vanzant ,
who moved to Fayette Co AL (by 1840s?), was also born in TN about 1818. We
are also seeking parents or family connection in TN.
