Subject: [D-Col] another thought about Capt. Cornelius Steenwyck's Militia

Since Steenwyck was a cadet in New Orange (the name given to New York City
by the reconquering Dutch in 1673), this must be a record following the
reconquest. Militia in the city were usually called (by the Dutch) the
burgher guard, but after nine years of English occupation, the terms were
probably being used interchangably. New York was captured by Dutch marines
and an armada of two fleets during the Anglo-Dutch War (I forget if that was
the second or third war of that name) but was returned to the English by
treaty in 1674.
