"Genealogies of the First Settlers of Ancient Albany County, New
York--1630-1800" lists an Isaac Hendrickse BURGHARDT (BURGER) who
married Judic Janse HOES and had children: Alida bp. 4 Sep 1698, and
Hendrick bp. 30 June 1706.
In accordance with Dutch naming practices, the father of the above
Isaac was undoubtedly named Hendrick, as was the father of my
ancestor, Coenraed Hendrickse BORGHGHARDT, who was probably born ca.
1670 at Claverack, Albany Co. [now Columbia Co., NY] to Hendrick
Coenraedse BURGAART and Marya Janse VAN HOESEN, a dau. of Jan Franse
VAN HOESEN, the progenitor of all of the VAN HOESENs in America who
bought land from the Indians and settled at Claverack in 1646.
Both Coenraed Hendrickse and his brother, Jan, were listed in the
1720 Census of Albany County as living in Kinderhook. Coenraed
migrated to Great Barrington, Berkshire Co., MA shortly thereafter.
The 1720 Census for Albany Co., NY also lists the following in the
3rd Ward of Albany:
Borghaert, Cornelis
Borghaert, Isaac
Borghaert, Jacob
Borghaert, Jacob Junr.
The Dutch Settlers Society of Albany lists Jan Tysse GOES as having
settled in New Netherlands in 1651.
Many grandchildren of the original Dutch settlers along the Hudson
River migrated to the area west of Albany known as Tryon/Montgomery
Co. that was separated from Albany Co. in 1772. Tryon/Montgomery was
subsequently partitioned into some 37 other counties--including
Delaware, Schoharie, and Chenango.
Would greatly appreciate any additional data about the
BURGHARDT/BURGETT family and allied families, including descendants
of any of the above GOES/HOES family, especially whether Judic Janse
GOES was a dau. of Jan Tysse GOES.
Thanks for looking.
