Bob,
Thanks for your info on the Gonsalus family.
The original inquiry from Lynn Gunsaulus pertained to the ancestry of the
first Manuel Gonsalus which has always been a mystry and subject to
speculation. The best source I have found on the Gonsalus family is a three
part set of working papers published by Ann Stofer Johnson in 1988, 1989 and
1994 respectively. I believe they are available at the FHL although I
purchased a set from Mrs Johnson. The Title is "Emanuel Gonsalus-Duk, Sr.
and his Descendants" .
In your extract there is an error that I should call to your attention. The
Maria Gonsalus that married Johannes Van Etten was born about 1732. The
Maria Gonsalus that married Benjamin Overfield is her niece -- daughter of
her brother Manual and Jannetje Van Etten (sister of Johannes). It is the
latter Maria that was baptised in Walpack in 1752.
All the best,
John Moore
