Are you talking about Nassau, N. Y., a community in Rensselaer County, not
all that far from Albany? or are you talking about the Bedell line from
Hempstead, L. I.? Both Bedell and Van Nostrand are old L. I. names. An
account of the Bedell
family appears in "Genealogies of Long Island Families", a set of re-prints
from the NYG&B Record.
If you are talking about Rensselaer County, I'm not sure this can help, but
if you really mean Hempstead in Queens [now Nassau] County, L. I., you may
be on to something.
The use of the term Nassau for Nassau County for any date before 1 January
1899 is just plain incorrect & can lead to mix-ups like this. Lots of LDS
stuff shows Nassau County w/ dates from the 1600's .. that really annoys me
. maybe it's just me.
You might be 150 miles away from where you need be due to the use/misuse of
the term "Nassau" in your sources.
