Bob -- after posting the Tunison data, I too wondered concerning the
ancestry of Rebecca Q. Van Fleet, second wife of John Tunison.
I have a Rebecca Van Fleet in my files, dau/of Frederick Van
Fleet [son of Frederick and Rebecca (DuBois) Van Fleet] and his wife,
Leah Van Fleet [dau/of Thomas and Margaret (Wyckoff) Van Fleet]. I
lack any information on her subsequent to her baptism on Christmas
day, 1785 at the Neshanic Reformed Church. She would have been about
3 years older than John Tunison, but Nov. 1831 would seem rather late
if he were her first husband.
Perhaps, therefore, the "Q" denotes her "birth surname" [I
believe the term "maiden name" is now not PC]. Given the paucity of
"Q" surnames, could John's 2nd wife have been a Rebecca Quick, or
Rebecca Quackenbosch, who had first married a Van Fleet and then
survived him to marry again?
It is May in Vermont, and the out-of-doors beckons, but I shall
endeavor to seek an answer. [Incidentally, our snow is gone -- though
patches can still be observed on top of Mt. Washington, some 50 miles
to the southeast].
