Hi, Peggy & List --
I have Holmes ancestors that lived in the area. Maria Holmes was my 5th
gr-grandmother, and was baptized 4 Jul 1733 at Minisink, Orange Co., NY.
Her baptism record and that of her brothers is found in the records of the
Dutch Reformed Church at Kingston, Ulster Co., NY. Maria's parents were
Samuel Holmes and En Hobbeson. She had brothers Charles and Samuel, who
were also baptized on the same day (as were a number of other children).
She may also have had a sister Eleanor -- that one I'm not sure of, but
there are certainly a lot of Eleanors in my Wheeler family. Eleanor married
a William Terry in Bucks Co., PA 26 May 1756, which is the right time frame
to be a sister of Maria.
Maria's marriage record says she was born in Smithfield, Bucks Co., PA. She
was married on Sept. 4, 1748 in the DRC at Smithfield to Joseph Wheeler, who
was baptized Sept. 4, 1726 at the Ulster Co., NY Dutch Reformed Church.
(His parents were Joseph Wheeler and Pieternelle Schoonmaker).
Maria's brother, Charles is listed as a member of a Smithfield Military
Company in 1763.
Sorry, Peggy, but no Lotts. Is any of this tied in with your Holmes?
Anyone on the list?
Pat Shoemaker
