I can't give you a detailed reason why we have Saddle River and Upper
Saddle River today, but the fact is we do. Both are boroughs today, each
with their own goverment. The two Saddle Rivers straddle the Saddle River
(that's a mouthful), the center of Upper Saddle River being upstream of
the center of Saddle River (the boro). I suspect they were one boro or
town as one point but those within what is now Upper Saddle River
probably began to take on airs and didn't want association with those in
plain vanilla Saddle River, so they seceded. Or it may have been the
reverse. Actually the two communities today are lovely with lovely homes
(and lovely prices too). I believe that Nixon bought and lived on an
estate in one of them after leaving the White House.
