David,

I appreciate your investigation and correction. Through
your correction was I able to identify Hendrick Willemse
from Evjen's book, "German Immigrants: 1630-1674"
[1972] as follows:

"Hendrick Willemse, who signed the petition of the
Lutherans in New Amsterdam. 1657, requesting that Rev Goetwater might
remain in the city as Lutheran preacher,
probably was a German. He is mentioned as early as 1648.
He owned a house at the N.W. corner of the present Bridge
and Broad Street. He was a baker, and was appointed
overseer of streets. About 1670 we find him in Albany.
In 1671 he and other Lutherans signed a petition
complaining of their minister. His daughter, GEESJE HENDRICKS, married
DIRCK JANSEN VAN CLEEF
(VANDERCLYF, probably from Alphen, in Brabant).
Geesje had six daughters, most of them married persons
of English descent," page 435.

My personal opinion holds that little Hendrick was named
to honor his godfather Hendrick Willemse by Elsje Pieters
van Hamburg and Matthys Capito (surnamed Bontze) from
Bonn [Germany].

Barentje Hendricks' first husband is Gerrit Webber,
probably brother of Hans Webber, first husband of
Elsje Pieters van Hamburg. In other words, Barentje
is probably sister-in-law of Elsje Pieters.

Regards,
Jean
