Searching for any information and references to Temperance Gladden and her
family of origin, as well as confirmation of her marriage probably in the
early 1740s to Arthur Van Wye [also found spelled Aert Van Weyen, or Wyen or
Wey or Way]. She must have died by 1752 when he remarried to Cornelia Kermer
and is shown as the Widower of Temperance in the DRC records from Walpack,
Sussex Co., NJ. The following is copied from the Whitesell Researcher's
Website.
"AERT VAN WEYEN ... His marriage is recorded in the register of the
Dutch Reformed Church, Walpack, Sussex County, New Jersey, (16 February 1752
(p. 99) to CORNELIA KERMER. [Aert van Weyen, wed; van Temperenz Gladdin met
Cornelia Kermer J. D. geboren op Maminack & bejde woonachtigh onder Wqlpack
getmmius door my J. C. Frjenmoct.] "
I am trying to confirm as well if they [Temperance & Aert] had 1./any
children; if so, names & 2/did any survive to adulthood and if so 3/ where
did the children live-grow up and 4/ was one named Arthur as well. Were they
raised by Aert & Cornelia or someone else, grandparents or Aert's siblings if
he had them-. The Minisink area on both sides of the Delaware River is
possible area as well as Ulster County NY where Aert may have served in the
militia against Indians in the 1730s & 1740s. As well, I hope to find out
where The Gladden family came from and lived through that period to 1770s.
Perhaps will give me clues on Arthur's origins, locations and residence sites
& date of death.
Thank you.
