Marleen, I don't expect that you saved my rather lengthy message to you
dated 30 January 1999 about this same subject :-). The Mattys Cornelisen
who said he had been in this county "24 yeare" in 1687 appeared in the
"off Breucklijn" section of the longer list on "The Roll of those who have
taken oath in the Province of New Yorke the 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, and
30th Day of September in the Third Yeare of His Majesty's Raigne Annoque
Domine 1687." This long list was published on pages 429-432 of Volume 1
of "The Documentary History of the State of New-York", edited by Edmund
Bailey O'Callaghan, and published by the Secretary of State in Albany in
1850. The list has been reprinted as well on pages 140-143 of Carl Boyer,
3rd's "Ship Passenger Lists, New York and New Jersey (1600-1825)"
[originally published by Boyer in 1978 and reprinted by Family Line
Publications of Westminster, MD, in 1992]. This list contains adult males
in Kings County, New York, in 1687.

Unfortuately there is nothing to connect *for certain* this Mattys
Corneliszen with the man of the same name who married Fytie Brouwer.

Their betrothal record was published during the past year in the new
edition of the Flatbush Church Records, volume 1 (1677-1720), edited by
David William Voorhees. On page 274 is the record in Dutch and on 275 the
English translation:

"Matys Cornelisen van Jutlandt, young man, with Fijtije Adams, widow of
Evert Hendricks, both residing at Brooklyn."

I am aware that this message gives you no new information, but it does
give citations for the secondary sources that pertain to the discussion.

Dorothy
