Dear Pat, As editor of "New Netherland Connections", how can I refuse
such an opportunity?
NEW NETHERLAND was a Dutch colony in North America occupying lands
bordering the Hudson River and later the lower Delaware River. It was
conquered by the English in September 1664 and renamed "New York" after
its new proprietor, The Duke of York. The capital of New Netherland (the
whole colony) was "New Amsterdam" (the city that occupied lower Manhattan
south of Wall Street).
While we're at it, HOLLAND was a medieval county of the Holy Roman Empire,
its land now included in the Dutch provinces of North Holland and South
Holland. The proper name for the present-day Dutch kingdom is the
"Netherlands" (in English).

Merriam Co., 1964].
