Bible; or to find out more about who the namesakes were.

Unfortunately, you have to have the spelling as used in the
King James version. I had earlier looked for "Assuerus" and
found only one citation in Tobit. So, thanks to Regina for
the "correct" spelling.

Mordecai, the cousin of Esther, also figures prominently in the
events. Although I've seen Mordecai used by early New England
settlers, I don't recall seeing the name among the Dutch.
