<< Hi Van, I'd love to know more abt Maria Van Vliet as well. ( hey Marty
Graybill, that PS to your note was really supposed to go to Van, ignore it
unless you know the answer! :>) ) I had been told that Maria Van Vliets
husband, John Courtright, died 1778 in the Battle of Wyoming. However
Cynthia pointed out that in the Van Vliet genealogy it states Maria & husband
moved to OH where John died c1811 & Maria 1813. John & Maria last had a
child bap. in Smithfield in 1774, that fits w/ either a move west or death.
There IS a John Courtright listed on the Battle of Wyoming memorial, however
I know first hand just how many John Courtrights there were. Every family
had to have one, I think it was required. Cindy >>
Van and Cindy,
Please let me point out that I have no publication regarding the entire Van
Vliet family but rather a small 53 page soft covered history of the Dirk Van
Vliet and Rachel Van Keuren family to the 3rd generation as one of the early
settlers of the PA Frontier, in now Monroe Co., PA. This publication does
show pictures of their gravestone, houses of many family members, copies of
deeds, records, maps of their property, etc. The title is "The Early Van
Vliets, A Typical Family North of the Blue Mountains, 1699-1834" compiled by
E. Ruth Dunning and Harry Van Vliet Leida, pub. 1989. I don't want to mislead
anyone here.
Cynthia
