Vol. 1, this entry actually reads "Christina Brunck" "

As we know, the Palatines came from Germany. In the German language there
is a convention of adding the suffix -in to designate a woman, i.e. a
feminine word ending.

The word for "master" is "Meister". A woman "master" is "Meisterin".

I was surprised when using Hank Jones' palatine records to see that this
convention even extended to surnames; so it would be natural
linguistically for a man to have the surname BRUNCK and for his daughter
to be designated Christina BRUNCKIN.

As the palatines got acclimated to English-speaking ways, the -in was not
perpetuated, and for genealogical purposes Lorine is right. The surname
shold be recorded as BRUNK.
