On page 109 of the November 2000 issue of "New Netherland Connections"
(5:4) the author identifies the Elsje Jans Staats who was baptized on 7
Feb 1686 in the New York Dutch church as the future wife of Nicasius Van
Cowenhoven. Elsje's parents were Jan Janse Staats and Annetje Praa.

The title of the article is "Who was Peter Staats of Gowanus" by Margery
Huston Freas.
