Hello, List:

We all have our reasons for doing genealogy,
and many take pleasure in finding their ancestors.
In my case, I am the beneficiary of an unforseen
dividend. I am a Pilgrim descendant who has
just found out I carry a genetic abnormality.

I am writing you as a form of public service in
order to alert you to a possible health problem
which is connected to those having lived in Leiden,
Holland. If you, or anyone in your family, has
suffered a stroke, or pleuricy, or who experiences
other blood symptoms, it would be well-worth
the effort to visit the website listed below.

I include an e-mail message I sent to certain
Brewster descendants earlier, which may contain
some redundant material, but offers some background
also.

I am a descendant of two of William Brewster's
children, Jonathan and Patience. I just found
out I have a genetic defect, which predisposes
me to not being able to dissolve blood clots.
(My mother died of multiple strokes, and I have
just recovered from a collapsed lung due to a clot.)
I am aged 72, but I am not sure whether the onset
is age-related or if I have always had the condition.

While this may seem macabre to some, I am alerting
you to a familial problem which has a deadly outcome.
It comes from ancestors who resided in and about Leiden,
Holland. And we all know what that means, being
descendants of Pilgrims.

Please take the time to click on the following URL
to read about "APCR." While the condition is
attributed to a region in Holland, for my part,
my Brewster ancestors were born in England, so
the people of Leiden must have inherited the
defect from their visitors.

The APCR test is an esoteric one, not usually
performed when a blood analysis is done. In
my case, it was done because there was no
"smoking gun" to explain the source of the clots
I had.
