According to "The Van Valkenburg Family in America" Vol. 1
by Paul Van Valkenburg, my ancestor Lambert Van
Valkenburg was granted 50 acres on 15 May 1649. This 50
acres, according to the VV book ---

"embrac[ed] nine city blocks on the west side of Lexington
Ave. from 29th to 35 th Streest extending west across park
and Madison Ave beyond 5th Ave from 31st to 33rd St
including the site of the Empire State Building."

Not being familiar with NYC I can't comment on the validity of
the description given, but I've always liked to think it's correct
:-)

Lambert later sold the land to none other than Claes Martens
Van Rosenvelt, ancestor of both Teddy and Franklin Delano
(again quoting from the VV book)
