Subject: [D-Col] Is it Jonathan or Johannes Roos?

Regarding Gordon Adam's recent post to me and Ree he has a different
theory. However, I agree with Ree that the parents of Jonathan Roos
must also be a Jonathan Roos and Hester. This follows the Dutch naming
of their children.
The Hackensack church records always listed him as Jonathan Roos, and
never as Johannes Roos.
Gordon feels that the parents of Jonathan, who he names Johannes, to
be Garret Johannes Roos and Judith Claesen Toers. Bergen Church
records note two children named Johannes (1710 and 1711). I believe
they would be one in the same and would be a double entry in the
church records. My reason is there is a note on the second child to
be named Johannes as "first son and first child". The record also shows
the grandmother to be Jacomyntje Tours.
Also, I think this Judith Claesen Toers should be Judith Arentsen
Toers, per Bergen records. Gerrit Roos is never listed as Garret
Johannes Roos.
There is no doubt that this Johannes Roos was a real person. But,
I just don't believe he is the same person as Jonathan Roos. He must
have been a Brit who infiltrated the Dutch Community. Being that he
was from Long Island is another clue.
John
