Greetings,
I have reached a 'brick wall' in my research and would appreciate some suggestions.
My BOOM ancestors have been traced back to Abraham BOOM, bp. 1 Jan 1742 Albany, Albany, NY. (Genealogies of the First Settlers of Albany, page 22.) Son of Johannes and Anne BERGER or BARBAR.
Naming patterns have been very strictly adhered to throughout many, many generations. Therefore, I have surmised that based on the names of Abraham's children, the likelihood is that his parents were Johannes and Anne.
I have located Johannes Van Der BOOM, b. 10 Jun 1707 Naaldwijk, Zuid Holland, Netherlands. Son of Abram Jansz VanDer BOOM and Maartje Claasse GOEJENBIER.
How do I bridge the Atlantic ocean? I have not done any research in the Netherlands. Any guidance towards proving/disproving the connection between this Johannes, born in Naaldwijk, and the son born in Albany would be very welcomed.
Family tradition says that the family surname was Van Der BOOM until they moved to America. Then it became BOOM. I realize that 'family tradition' is just word of mouth, but it is all I have to go on right now.
Thanks in advance for your time and insight.
Diane
