Hi Jacqueline ,
Thanks for writting-- No I have found no connection with your Lodowyck Post ,and
have never found the name , Lodowyck inmy family .
In my files I have a 2 page article , titled "The Post Families of New Jersey"
by Dirk P. De Young , Avenel , N.J.--Jan. 1935 .. I will give it , as I have it
.
Quote-----Another branch of New Jersey Posts descend fromWillem Pos
or Post who died in Somerset County about 1724 ,when his will was probated .
His sonswere Willem, Thomas and John .Willem Pos aforesaid ,was born on
Long Island , 1680 and was the son of another Willem Pos and Aaltje van
Coevarden .The last named Willem Pos was born in New Netherlands ,
baptized at the Dutch church there in 1652 ,as the sonof Lodewyk Cornelise
Pos , signer of the articles of recaptiulation when the Dutch surrendered to
the English .The mother of Willem Pos , b.1652 was Agnes Bonen . The name was
spelled Pos by the early members of the family in New York as it is sometimes in
Holland ,but the orginal spelling of the name was Post .
Lodewky Cornelise Pos was the son of Cornelius Pos , and I believe the
grandson of Hendrik Post , the writer`s ancestor , {De Young}, born about
1540.. The Somerset Posts would therefore claim descent from Willem Pos ,
b.1680, Willem b. 1652 ; Lodewyk b. about 1600 ; Cornelius b. about1570 and
Hendrik Post b. about 1540 . This Pos or Post family haledfrom the
Zuider Zee---Amsterdam , Edam and Hoorn , Holland . Although probably
kin of the Capt.Adrian Post clan , the relationship is not as yet indicated.
End of quoted article .......
Remember this was written in 1935 by Dirk P. De Young , alot may have
changed since then .. I would , if you , research , De Young ,and see if there
is any follow up material in print , now that you have names and dates
it should be easy to check for sources ...
I hope this has been of some use to you.... Regards----- LESLIE
