According to Arthur C.M. Kelly in his book, "Names, Names & More Names - Locating Your Dutch Ancestors in Colonial America", Catalyntje and similar spellings are all listed as translating to Caroline. He has 7900 names and spelling variations; half are Dutch to English. The introduction to the tables says, "Tables of Name Equivalents and Dutch/English conversions as found in early records of New York and New Jersey."

In the "Van Deursen Family" by Captain A. H. Van Deusen (pages 693-716), there is a 24-page glossary of Dutch names entitled, "CHRISTIAN NAMES AS USED AMONG THE NEW NETHERLAND SETTLERS, AND THEIR APPROXIMATE EQUIVALENTS IN ENGLISH".

In that he lists the following.

Cathalina, Cathalyntje, Cathlyna = Catherine, Catharine
Catharina, Cathryna = Catherine, Catharine

It is interesting that Dorothy's sources often disagree with Kelly, which means that she and I sometimes give different answers to the naming questions. It is good to have more than one opinion. In this case, Van Deusen also disagrees with Kelly. Since Cathalyntje and Catharina sound quite different, I'm not surprised that Kelly considers them to be different names, but I don't know if his source of names is only what he had in his databases or whether he used book sources as well. He has transcribed the records of 60-80 churches in Eastern NY and New Jersey. He may have only used the church and civil records as sources of information. With sometimes 20 spelling variations for a single name, I wouldn't surprised if that were the case. In the case of Femmetje, Kelly had about 8 spellings and translated the name as Sophia.
