Dear Pam, You asked for a check of the Brooklyn and Jamaica DRC baptismal
records for the children of Steven Janszen Van Voorhees and Catharina Van
Duyn. You also cited the work of Albert Stokes for this Van Voorhees
family. You may also want to consult Florence A. Christoph's 2000
voluminous update of Stokes' earlier work, "The Van Voorhees Family in
America; the first six generations" -- a compilation done for the Van
Voorhees Family Association.

On pages 32 and 33 Mrs. Christoph discusses Steven and Catherina and their
10 children. Their marriage is said to have taken place about 1705.
"Catrina Van Duyn was born circa 1685. She died before 1757." Steven
married again as in his will he mentions his wife as "Sarah".

The 10 children listed are

1706 Cornelia
1708 Williambap. 1 Aug 1708 at Brooklyn
1710 Johnbap. 28 May 1710 at Brooklyn
1715 Corneliusbap. 31 Jul 1715 at Jamaica
1717 Ruluf
1721 Jacobbap. 2 Apr 1721 at Jamaica
1723 Lucasbap. 7 Apr 1723 at Jamaica
1727 Antje
1729 Stephenborn 11 May 1729 at New Utrecht
1729 Elizabethbap. 24 Aug 1729 at Jamaica

The 1729 Stephen is clearly an error. There was a Stephen Van Voorhees
baptized in the New Utrecht church on 11 May 1729. His parents are given
as Cornelis Stevens and Femmetje, his wife.

In the tw Brooklyn baptisms the parents are given as "Steven Janze and
Ctrina".

In the Jamaica baptisms the parents are given as various spellings of
"Steeven Jansen" and "Catryntie/Caatie Jansen". This could well be the
wife recorded in the English fashion with her husband's patronymic used
as a surname.

Sorry that the records aren't more helpful! Dorothy
