I have been following this tread, and also have a Douwe Aukes alias De
Freest, who was married to Maria Viele whom was killed in 1690 with her
children.
I have a dictionary that gives the Dutch and German pernociations of David
to be da vit.
A Welsh dictionary has Dafydd and Dewi (A Pocket Welsh Dictionary, no
author, copyrighted Emeralda Ltd., Cardiff, no year), that is supported by a
second work.
In Burce Lansky's book "Dov" is a short form of David in Hebrew.
As latter Douwe's became "Dow", it is a puzzeling if it isn't a form of
David.
