From what I remember the True Reformed Churches were split from the Dutch
Reformed Churches during the Coetus/Conferentie dispute, very similar to the Old
Lights/New Lights controversy in the Presbyterian Church. Weren't too many
that had left and within a few years they all disappeared into the Presbyterian
Church.
The most famous discussion of it can be found in the book "The Huguenot
Settlement Of Schrallenberg, A history Of Bergenfield New Jersey" by Adrian Leiby.
He describes a battle in one church where after having separate worship
services for a season the members decided to split and build a new church. During
the night one group came in and took the collection bags and hymnals. The other
group then got angry and tore the building down and took all the bricks. Both
groups built new buildings but wouldn't complete them, waiting to see who
would have the higher steeple. A sad time for all and Christ.
