If Jan Jochemsen Kalder and his wife Marritie (married second Gysbert
Bogaert) had a son Helmer, then do the following records all refer to the
same person or was there more than one Helmer Janse?

The first record I find of a Helmer Janse is Albany Court records of 14 Nov
1685, Gysbert Marcelis, plaintiff, against Helmer Janse, defendant. The
plaintiff demanded of the defendant, 42 gl. in beavers for a gun and one
pair of shoes. The honorable court condemned the defendant to pay the
plaintiff the sum of 42 gl. in beavers demanded, cum expensis. Helmer Jansz
witnessed the baptism 27 Oct 1687 of Maria daughter of Lucas Lucasz and
Dorthea Jansz in the Albany Dutch Reformed Church. Marriage banns were
published 25 Dec 1687 at Albany Dutch Reformed Church, "Helmig Jeralimans,
young man and Anneke Lucasz, widow of Frans Mennoury, both living near New
Albany." Helmert Jansz witnessed a baptism 8 Sept 1689 of Agnict daughter
of Francois Gaignon and his wife, Agnict Jansz. "Helmert Jansz and Antje
Laurents" were witnesses 28 Jan 1694 at the baptism of "Pieter son of Teunis
Pietersz and Margriet Laurentsz." In the inventory of the estate of Marten
Gerritsen van Bergen, Albany, 6 May 1696 there was land at Coxhachy in
partnership with Jan Bronk and an old dilapitated house and a barn in
possession of Helmer Janse, with a cow (Early Records of Albany by
VanLaer). The petition of Helme Janse showeth how ye his stepfather Gysbert
Bogaert & Mary Jochemse his mother have been peaceably possessed of a
certain peace of woodland situate lyeing & being on ye northside of Catskill
for above twenty years last past which land they afterwards wist on ye 26
June 1684 purchased of ye native proprietors as by ye deed thereof made
before ye magistrate of Albany dated 7 Feb 1698/9. Helmer Jansen witnessed
the Will of Hendrick VanWie, 3 June 1701 (Albany County Records, Wills I,
p. 80). "Helmer Janse Jeraleman and Antje Jeraleman" witnessed the baptism
17 May 1702 of "Antje daughter of Ritchart Janse VandenBerk and Tryntje
Hoochteeling." The petition of Helmer Janse of Coxhacksy in ye County of
Albany (the remainder is the same as the petition dated 7 Feb 1698/9), dated
27 July 1702 for which a patent was granted 29 July 1702."Helmer Jansse and
wife, Anna" were witnesses 7 Jan 1705 at the baptism of "Helmer Johannes son
of William Turner and Abigail Bogart." "Helmer Jansse and wife, Antje" were
witnesses 6 Apr 1707 at the baptism of "Jacob son of Jan Dekker and Tryje
Bogert." "Helmer and Antie Jansen" were witnesses 25 Dec 1714 at the baptism
of "Anna daughter of Cornelis and Antie Lanzensen." Hellemer Janse Jeralewin
(this must certainly refer to Joralemon) was among a list of troops in the
city and county of Albany under the command of Captain John Schuyler in
1715. Helme Janse was enumerated in the 1720 census of "Coxhacky and Cats
Kills." Helmer Janse late of the said County (Albany) deceased, about the
twentieth of September one thousand seven hundred and thirty one dyed
intestate leaving no issue behind him being at the time of his death seized
of a certain tract of land in the County of Albany lying on the westside of
Hudsons River near Katts Kill (same land described in above petition and
patent).

What complicates this is that if the above all refer to the same person and
he was known as Helmer Janse Joralemon then he had two brothers Jacobus
Janse Joralemon and Jan Janse Joralemon. Jacobus Jansen Ralemon, young man,
from New Albany and Pietertje Claes, young dame, from Ahasymus received
certificate of marirage at Hackensack, 12 Dec 1696. Jan Janse Joralemon had
marriage banns published 16 Aug 1701 at Hackensack as "Jan Hanse Jeralemen,
young man, born Albany to Vrouwtie Brouwer, young maiden, born Brooklyn."

Children of Jan Janse Joralemon and Pieterje Claes (baptised 26 Aug 1671
Dutch Reformed Church, New York City daughter of Nicholas Jansen
VanPurmerendt (usually found in records as Claes Jansen and sometimes
called Claes Jansen VanPurmerendt Cuyper whose descendants adopted the
surnames, Claes, Jansen, and Cuyper) and Annatje Cornelis (daughter of
Cornelis VanVorst and Vrouwtje Ides).
