Dear Richard, I think you are really on to something in pointing out a
VAN HOUTEN connection to Annetje Kip, the wife of Anthony Paxton.

In Frederic Elsworth Kip's 1928 genealogy, "History of the Kip Family in
America" on page 151 he says that the Annetje baptized in 1740, the
daughter of Cornelius Kip and Eva Berdan, "probably" married Anthony
Paxton on 26 July 1761.

I have always tried to identify families through the godparents associated
with the children of a couple. Here, again, are the 4 children of Anthony
Paxton and Annetje Kip whose baptisms were in the Acquackanonk Church:

7 Mar 1762 Daniel Theunis Spier, Catalyntje Ouke
1 Apr 1770 Isaac Jacob Toers, Cathalyntje Kip
15 Aug 1773 Richard Richard Pickstoon, Pryntje Van Winkel
14 Oct 1781 Annaatje Paulus Paulusse, Fytje Jurrianse

It's a shame that we haven't identified the churches where others of their
children were baptized.

At any rate, I believe that the family found on page 339 of Mr. Kip's work
is much more likely to be Annetje (Kip) Paxton's family of origin.

Here are the children of Isaac Kip (bap. 8 Jan 1690 in NY) and Anna Van
Noorstrant (bap. 12 Feb 1696). The first three children are baptized in
the New York City Dutch Church; the 3 youngest were baptized in the
Acquackanonk Dutch Church:

19 Jun 1717 Isaac
23 Sep 1719 Anna
25 Apr 1722 Sara
8 Apr 1725 Jannetje Kip m. Gerrit Van Houten on 27 Jun 1745
24 Sep 1727 Catalina Kip m. Jacob Toers about 1754
17 May 1730 Helena Kip m. Jacob Van Houten about 1755

At first I thought the Annetje who married Anthony was the Annetje Kip
born in 1719, but I soon realized that she would then be 43 years old at
the birth of her first child!

Instead, I strongly feel that the Annetje who married Anthony Paxton was
probably the daughter of the Isaac Kip who was born in 1717. Anthony
Paxton was born in 1735, and Isaac Kip, Jr. would have been old enough to
name a daughter after his own mother about 1740. The Cathalyntje Kip who
witnessed the baptism of little Isaac Paxton in 1770 would have been the
mother's paternal aunt.

A further tie-in in the will abstract on page 326 of the NJ "Calendar of
Wills, 1814-1817":

Richard Paxton of Acquacknonk Township in Essex County wrote his will on
22 April 1813. It was proved 9 April 1817. In the will he names two sons
-- Daniel R. Paxton and Henry Paxton. He refers to the north part of his
farm that was surveyed by Garret Van Houten on 15 Apr 1813. He makes his
two sons executors. The witnesses were Garret Van Houten, JOseph
Vanwinkle, and John J. Riker.

Have a look at this baptism again:

"15 Aug 1773 Richard Richard Pickstoon, Pryntje Van Winkel"

I don't know which Richard Paxton wrote a will in 1813, but there is the
Van Winkle connection again.

It is for these reasons that I think our Annetje is the daughter of Isaac
Kip, baptized 19 June 1717 in New York Dutch Church.
