Hi Gladys,

My apologies for nit-picking, but I don't believe that Marguerite is a
derivative of Mary. Though I have seen many spellings for Mary, such as
Marreytie and others, that might be transcribed as something close to
Margarite if the handwriting was really poor.

George,

I'm not familiar with the Alyea line, but if you could explain your
reasoning someone might be able to helpfully comment on it. One possible
explanation, assuming that only the first name doesn't fit the rest of the
data, is that the woman might be favoring a middle name later in life.
Somebody else on the list, given more information, might have a better idea.

Jim

George,
I descend from Pieter Alyea born about 1692 in Hackensack, Bergen Co.,
NJ. His line stayed in NJ during the Rev. War. His father, Jan Aliee
and siblings moved to Delaware. Because of Pieter's refusal to move
with the family, he was disinherited-inherited. Peters family stayed in
the NJ area so more that likely, she is of that line. Pieter had a son
named Abraham who married Jacomyntie Helling who had a daughter named
Marya. Marya was baptized 11 Apr 1771 in NJ. I was unable to find a
Mary Alyea, however Marguerite in various forms (which is a derivative
of Mary) was common in the Pieter Alyea line. I will keep my eyes open,
for a Mary, but check the variations on the Alyea name: Aliee, Alley,
Alee.

I am trying to confirm a young lady from the Alyea family in my database
and all evidence including a sibling of the correct name and age leads
me to an particular Annetje Alyea yet my Alyea is Mary. Do I simply have
the wrong person here or is there a possible explanation? This person
was born in NJ about 1780.

Thanks for any help.
George
