Since the list has done so superbly (special thanks to Howard) in explaining the DRC's position on baptism and marriage (the early Dutch attitude toward holy communion is very interesting, but doesn't help advance genealogical research), here's another question for you.
Here are the records of two marriages which took place at present-day Croton (Westchester). Why do you think the couples needed "special permission" to marry there?

Records of Dominie Selyns at the Manhattan church.
The Sleepy Hollow Church was not formed until 1697.
