Record from the Amsterdam Archiefdienst, showing publication of banns 21 September 1719.

Translation from the Dutch

"Publication of the banns of Thauuet Besly (from New York, 28 years old, living in the Bethanien straat, his father Oliver living in New York) and Hester Vincent (from Angohlem, 24 years old, living on het Rohkin, assisted by her mother Anna Ijver, widow of Ijsbrandt."

There is a note in the margin:

"Consent of his father well brought in, certificate granted to marry at the Walloon Church here"

and the further note

"The marriage was celebrated October 15"

(In the Netherlands at that time, a man under thirty
years of age needed his father's permission to marry)


Question:

Would "Angohlem" refer to the early Portuguese slave trading settlement in Angola? Or would there be some Dutch explanation
for "Angohlem"? The slave trade aspect would fit this family, but I'd like to make certain.
