Did any of Adriaen BLOCK's descendents settle in the New World?
Adriaen Block was the explorer who overwintered on Manhattan island in
1613-1614 after his ship, the "Tyger" burned; the "Onrust" was
constructed during that winter. He explored the Hudson and rivers
connected to it. He is said to have made several voyages to the New
World.
There was an Aderiaen, aka Aerjan BLOCK, "Varensman" (seafarer) who
had five children baptized in Amsterdam between 1607 and 1615. This
man's wife was Neeltje Henricks. No children were baptized in the
period after October 1612, and before late July 1615 (these last
twins, probably conceived no later than 1 Jan 1615). This hiatus
roughly corresponds with the time "our" Adriaen BLOCK was sailing to
and from, or in North America.
