Hi Ethel,
I assume you are thinking that maybe Weyntie was a sister
of Elbert Elbertszen (Stoothof), right?
That looks like a reasonable hypothesis.
Robert Miller in his article “Aert Willemszen and His Descendants”
in NYGBR vol 26, p. 134 says, “Weyntje Elberts, his wife, probably
came from Nieukercken, in Zeeland, with her brother Elbert Elbertszen.”
He doesn’t seem to offer any proof they are siblings, though.
Elbert Elbertszen came to NN in the Calmer Sleutel with Arent van Curler.
They sailed after Dec 29, 1637. See Van Rensselaer Bowier Mss.
pp. 395-400. If she is a sister to Elbert Elbertszen and if she came on
the same ship, Van Rensselaers doesn’t mention it, as far as I can see.
Note that Elbert Elbertszen witnessed the bp. of Weyntie’s son Elbert.
Arent van Curler wit. dau. Annetje and Arent’s cousin, Jacob van Curler
wit. the bap. of son Willem.
I think E E and the van Curlers were from Nijkerk in Gelderland, not
Nieukercken, in Zeeland as Mr. Miller said. See NYGBR vol 64, p. 12
for arms of Van Curler and also note that the Van Rensselaers were from
that area.
Also, Van Laer in VRBM p. 817 (or SRwk p. 17) has E E from Nykerck
in Gelderland.
In a quick search in NN sources, I didn’t find anything else to tie Weyntie to
Elbert Elbertszen. He does not seem to be mentioned, for example, in the
Orphanmasters proceedings involving her. See Min. of the Orphanmasters,
pp. 205-210.
You may have to search Nijkerk records for further info.
One thing that puzzles me is the bap. of Wyntje on 8 Mar 1643 by an
Aert Willemszen and then the bap. on 21 June 1643 of a son Elbert.
Regards,
Howard
