A few days ago I posted a will dated 1838 of William Pop, Nash Co., NC
wherein he names Dau's Sally Edwards, Chirsey Bennett and named his
grandsons, say sons of Cullen Edwards: John William Edwards, Henderson
Battle Edwards, Edwin Francis Edwards and James R. Clinton Edwards. Gave
his bed a furnishings to H.B.Edwards (whom I am assuming is the above named
Henderson Battle Edwards) He mentions the Archibald Pope Tracts and Joseph
Pope tract of land to be divided, etc. Executor friend Jacob Eng. Wit:
Edwin Edwards. Dated 21 day of Mar 1838.

My anc. Solomon Edwards (whom others say is son of William and his wife
Sarah Edwards, but no proof) made his will Nash Co., NC 17 Sep 1820 and he
died 1823. Son Edwin Edwards Exec and gets 382 acres more or less. William
Dortch and Charlotte Exum are Witnesses.

Solomon Edward's wife Martha (maiden name Curl) Nash Co,NC dies 1828 (I
believe) and names son Edwin Edwards, Exec., she also names dau's Peggy
Thorn (of Taylor Thorn), Betsey Jones (of Allen Jones), Tempy Ricks (of
Jonathan Ricks), and Polly Westray (of William Westray). (that is Margaret,
Elizabeth, Temperance, and Mary). Wit: Jesse H. Drake.

1842 Sep 5 in obedience to Court Order set aside dower for the widow of
Edwin Edwards, dc'd by Jury to Sally Edwards. Among others appointed was
Exum L. Curl. Nash Co., NC

Nash Co.,NC Court of Pleas & Quarter Session Aug term 1844 Jessie H.
Drake, Jacob Ing, Harris Williams, H. Hilliard, and Willie Ricks be
appointed Commissioners a majority of whom may act to allot to Mathew
Edwards, Solomon Edwards, Wiliam Edwards, David Edwards, William Thorn,
Edwin Edwards of full age and William Edwards, Jesse B. Edwardsm Francis
Edwards, Clinton Edwards, Sarah Edwards and Eveline Edwards, infants who
appear by their Guarian, Van R. Boddie, their shares of a tract of land
lying in the County of Nash on Compass Creek containing about 320 acres not
subject to dower which lately descended to them upon the death of Edwin
Edwards and report.

Next was the division and laying off of the parcels of land: Names all and
they are as above. (William Thorn He must be grand child of Edwin Edward's
sister Peggy (Margaret) Thorn wife of Taylor)?

Lot #1 to David Edwards, #2 to William Thorn. 66 acres drawn by John W.
Edwards, Jesse B. Edwards, Francis Edwards, Clinton Edwards, Sarah Edwards,
and Evitian (previously called Evelyn) Edwards, Infants who appear by
Guardian Van R. Boddie, and recieved from lots Noa-5-6 & 7. Lot#4 84 acres
more or less Solomon Edwards.And it goes on and on with the full descr. All
are named. Signed by Jesse H. Drake, Jacob Eng, John H. Harris, & Wm H.
Hilliar.

Now come the questions Is it Evelyn or Evitian male or female?

Do you think the names are similiar enough for me to think or conclude that
Edwin Edwards wife was the Sally (Sarah) spoken of as dau in William Pope's
will. The grandsons names are so similar to the names inheriting from
Edwin Edwards. Apparently there were more children born bet. 1838 when Wm.
Pope made his will and 1843 when Edwin Edwards died.
Is Edwin Edwards full name Cullen Edwin or Edwin Cullen Edwards?????
Those of you working William and Sarah Edwards line do the names sound
like family names??
I'm hoping someone out there have some answers for me. I will be so
grateful.
Maybe someone else will find some help in the names in these wills. I
have photocopies them so if you have questions just E-mail and I can read

11 Nov 1789 Hardyman Pope made his will names son Elisha Pope, dau Mary
Pope, son Demsey Pope, son Jesse Pope, Joseph Pope, dau Ann Pope, dau
Susanna Newton, my wife Sarah Pope I lend my land & plantation but at death
or remarriage of wife my four youngest sons Joseph Pope, Hardyman Pope,
Archibald Pope and William Pope all the aforesaid legacy lent to my wife
Sarah Pope to be equally divided amongst them and their heirs, etc . . . .
Exec are Elisha Pope and Reuben Taylor.
Wit: Jesse Johnson, Josiah Pope Will was duly presented to the court and
by oath of Jesse Johnson & Josiah Pope and the date got cut off.

I post this because of the mention of Archibald Pope and Joseph Pope Tract
of land in William Pope's will

I also have the will of Dempsey Pope Nash, NC wife Bedah Pope and at her
death etc., . . . . I give & bequeath lands divided = between my son
William Pope, Elizabeth Rose (wife of Richard Rose), Penelope Fountain
(wife of William H. Fountain), and Mary pope (my three daughters, Other to
my son Littleberry Pope and dau Mary pope to divide equally et.. . . My son
Littleberry Pope, Exec. 6 June 1835.

Jacob Ing & Nathan Manning. Aug Term 1835.

Will of William A. Pope: Edgecomb 5 Jan 1848 This was on film of Nash Co.,
NC Pope Wills. Names Mary Ann Pope wife no children but if there should
be at my death I leave it to the law to disburse. 5 Jan 1848
