Hi everybody:
If these don't help with linking, maybe they will add to your histories
those little interesting things that make up a life.

ITEM # 29
SANDFORD ELLIOTT
Healdton, L.T.
His father lived in North Carolina, near Hartford, on the Bay. He went
with his father to see his Uncle John Edwards, when he was a small boy.
His Uncle John lived in Virginia near the North Carolina line; about ten
days' travel from Norfork, and one day's travel from what was called the
"Gates House" in those times. He heard his father and Uncle John say that
"This estate" property was called "Bear Grass," which he thinks is Troy,
N.Y., now. He has one sister and one brother alive.

ITEM #30
JOHN W. EDWARDS
New Marion, Indiana

He was born March 2, 1828, near Lumberton, Burlington County, New
Jersey: was five years old when his parents moved to Philadelphia, Pa.,
March 1, 1853 (should be 1833). They lived there 18 months, then moved to
Columbiana County, Ohio, in September, 1835. He was then six years and six
months old. He lived in Ohio until he was twenty years old. In the spring
of 1853, he moved with his parents to Ripley County, Ind., where he has
resided ever since.

He was raised on a farm and has always followed that occupation. He was
married April 19, 1860 to Amanda M. Myers; has three children; one daughter
and two sons. His oldest son Charles Edwards, lives at North Vernon, Ind.,
and is a photographer. His second son lives at Delaware, Ind.
His daughter, Mrs Emma Duncan, lives at Benville, Ind.

His father William P. Edwards, was born July 15, 1802 at Philadelphia,
PA. His mother Susan Edwards was born in Burlington Co., N.J., August 30,
1799. They were married there August 30, 1825, by Richard Eagre, Esq.

ITEM 31
MARYLAND EDWARDS

The first Edwards who settled in Maryland was Robert Edwards, who sailed
from the British Isles on the Ark and settled at St. Mary's in 1634. There
is mention of others of this name at later periods but whether descendants
of the first Robert I have not as yet learned.

In 1660 Edward's Neck a tract of land on South River, Maryland, was
patented to John Edwards, who died without issue. This property came into
the possession of Colonel Nicholas Gassoway. Colonel Gassoway in
transferring this property later to Mr. Anthony Ruley records "that it came
into his possession through inheritance."

MY LINE OF DESCENT
Edward Edwards, son of Cadwallader and Catherine Edward; was baptized
June 7, 1711, All Hallows Parish.

He married Jemima Welsh, fourth child of Robert Welsh and Catherine
Lewis, his wife, January 1734.

In his will probated at Annapolis, Maryland, 18 Apr 1786, he mention
children: Catherine Lusby, Elizabeth Anderson, Jemima Evans, Mary Waters,
Sarah Edwards, Anne Linthicum, Margaret Ponerden, and son Aquilla Edwards,
and William Edwards, and wife Anne.
Executors were: Anna Edwards, Aquilla Edwards, William Edwards,
Cadwallader Edwards, and Jonathan Edwards.

It will be noted that in the will Edward Edwards he mention wife Anne.
There is no known record of this marriage to Anne which is believed by me
to be a second marriage. In all probability there were children of both
marriages as the names of the children would so indicate.

Sarah Edwards married William Anderson, date of marriage not known, but
the will of William Anderson probated 11 Januray 1805, he mention his wife
Sarah and the following children: Mary Edward Edwards (my great grand
father)*? , William, Samuel, James, and granchildren.

It is also noted in the will of Edward Edwards mention is made of
Elizabeth Anderson; whether she was the first wife of William Anderson, who
later married Sarah Edwards, her sister has not been determined.

Edward Edwards Anderson married Susannah Chaney, Dec 12, 1797, in Anne
Arundel Co., Maryland.

William Samuel Anderson, eldest child of Edward Edwards Anderson and
Susannah Chaney married Sarah Waters, Dec 1821.

Rachel Maria Anderson, sixth child of William Samuel Anderson and Sarah
Waters, married Francis I. Newman, 20 Dec 1848. I am their youngest and
13th child.

Whether my ancestor Cadwallader Edwards is a descendant of Robert
Edwards, the emigrant to Maryland, or from the Virginia branch , I have not
been successful in solving, nor have I been able to connect the John
Edwards who was granted land on South River as the same line.

In the archives of Maryland mention is made of at least three Edward
Edwards, who served in the Rev. War from the state of Maryland.

It is generally believed that all the branches of the family who settled
in this country were of Welch extraction.

I would be very glad to correspond with anyone who is interested in this
live. I was born and reared in the vicinity of Bowie, Prince George's
County--Maryland.

TRADITION

Three sons and one daughter came from the British Isles and settled in
Ann Arundel Co., Md., in the early colonial period. Two of the sons became
dissatisfied and returned to their native country, died in England
unmarried. The other son remained in this country and is the progenitor of
the descendant of my line. Whether the daughter remained in this country
is not known.

WATER-ANDERSON- JONES

Nathan Isaak Waters, Mabel Waters Anderson left Maryland in the days of
the covered wagon, it is believed settled in Ohio.

Their descendants are scattered through the West. The write is desirous
of communicating with their descendants.

Nathan Isaak Jones, nephew of Nathan Isaak Waters and Mabel Waters
Anderson, also located in Ohio.
